ART EXHIBITION AT HOTEL LA ENREA
Hotel la Enrea Bar & Exibition Room

Montefrio’s La Enrea Hotel provided a relaxed and comfortable setting for the first of a series of events aimed at achieving closer integration between the local British and Spanish communities.

Friday evening of 25th September saw a convivial gathering of people where they were able to view the works of five local artists. This event was organised jointly by Zerca Hoteles Director Clive Jarman and Montefrio art enthusiast Roger Marriott.

The artists exhibiting were Matty Bradley from Iznajar, John Lachlan from Ventas de los Agramaderos, Tony Baker from Montillana, Caroline Pringle from Montefrio and Francisco Romero Perez from Milanos.

Paco Romero’s works included a miscellany of beautiful Andalusian landscapes together with a selection of extremely well executed portraits and two stunning examples of his craft capturing the majesty of the Alhambra and the warmth and splendour of our very own Montefrio with La Villa standing prominently above a cascade of white cottages.

© Tony Baker 2009 Tony Baker’s art delivers strident and well drawn images “burned” into sheets of polystyrene. The overall effect delivers a blend of line and colour in a novel and attractive format and all this at very attractive prices too.
Caroline Pringle is new to painting and yet her work shows great promise. The five pictures on display include the complex architecture of the Alhambra and a beautifully delicate representation of Montefrio’s Iglesia de La Encarnacion. Three others include an image of a small finca set in typically Spanish landscape and two studies of geraniums growing in pots which show a great lightness of touch and sensitivity © Caroline Pringle 2009
© Matty Bradley 2009 Matty Bradley’s paintings reflect her fascination with light and colour and present a vibrant “take” on the local landscape, be it a meadow in Spring or a lake in the hills, her work is highly colourful and delivers genuine slices of the real Spain be it through landscapes, townscapes or highly detailed architectural features such as a wonderfully clever composition of and through an archway, taking the viewer’s eye onwards and downwards to follow the descent towards infinity.
Local artist John Lachlan has an instantly recognisable style that is a fusion of a unique combination of skills. His slightly off-beat images of people are exaggerated, even distorted;  yet because he places them in believable everyday situations they are warmly accepted by the viewer. Whether it is a market scene or a moment in the day of a busy bar John´s pictures are all about people, people engaging in routine even humdrum tasks but above all his pictures deliver a powerful message about friendship, reliance and trust.

All of the artists have kindly agreed to allow their paintings to remain on show at Hotel La Enrea for a further two weeks. Members of the public who were unable to be there on Friday should take the opportunity to discover for themselves that Montefrio has Talent!
